Deus Ex: Invisible war

Alexander Brandon provided audio direction, sound design, music and voice for the successful sequel to the original hit “Deus Ex.”

This project was fun in many different ways. First, it had 30,000 lines of dialogue, which was considered a great deal back in 2003 when we started recording it. If you think about it an average film contains around 1200 lines of dialogue. Therefore, the audio team and programmers had  to develop systems and processes to keep track of numerous lines across hundreds of characters and gameplay behavior triggers for both English and localized languages. Next, the game featured one of the first audio physics systems to connect to Havok (still the most used physics plug-in for engines). Working with Brian Sharp (now a lead at Bungie), we worked together to create a matrix of physics sounds for any kind of impact. The result was so successful it got applause when it was demonstrated. Finally, the soundtrack was a complete departure from the original, veering more ambient than thematic, and gained a completely new kind of audience, also earning award nominations for “Best Vocal” for the title track. The vocal is actually Funky Rustic’s CEO, Jeanette Brandon!
