Tyrian

Alexander Brandon’s first title. He provided music, writing and team management to the most popular shoot ‘em up of 1995.

This started with some code written by my oldest friend, Jason Emery. It is also how I got involved with Epic Games (back then Epic Megagames), and how I met Tim Sweeney, Cliff Bleszinski and our great producer, Robert Allen. In fact it’s thanks to Cliff that the game was picked up, so I owe him quite a bit. It went from being published by a sister company, Safari Software, to a full Epic product once we got an Amiga artist onboard (Daniel Cook). He made it pretty, and I made it sound good and gave it a vague semblance of a storyline. It turned out to be a hit, selling over 70,000 copies within several months (in 1995 this was still a good sales figure), getting a higher rating than 3d competitors and eventually turning into a cult classic, which still surprises Jason, Dan, and myself.
